From Srinagar, this magnificent Himalayan journey begins today. Start your journey towards Kargil on National Highway 1 after an early breakfast. We will reach Sonamarg, one of the most visited tourist spots in the area, after a few hours of riding. One way to describe the vistas in the valley is as though you are seeing a wallpaper unfold before your eyes. We begin climbing Zoji La (3528) shortly after we cross the valley, and the entire valley is visible from the summit of the mountain. We will cross Dras, the second-coldest place on Earth, after a few more hours of riding. After a brief rest at the Dras War Memorial, we ride on in the direction of Kargil. Once there, spend the night.
The roads between Kargil and Leh are reasonably good, so the travel today will be more comfortable overall. We depart from the hotel early once more, and after a few hours of riding, we will cross two high passes: Namika La (3700m) and Fotu La (4108m). The Zanskar region is home to both of these passes. We ride for two more hours to Lamayuru, where the highest monastery in the area is situated. The scenery after passing the settlement is magnificent, yet the drive to Lamayuru isn't particularly dull. We continue riding over a breathtaking moonscape in the direction of Leh, arriving at our destination in the dark. Once you've reached Ladakh's largest city, check into your accommodation and take some time to relax. If you have the time, you might go out and wander through the Leh market later. Spend the night.
Following
a very leisurely day in Leh, we resume our journey and begin riding across what
is regarded as the world's highest motorable road in the direction of Nubra
Valley. Khardung La (5359m). Up until the checkpoint next to South Pullu, the
road leading to the pass is well-tarred and paved. After passing the checkpoint,
the road becomes slushy, with loose boulders on one side. Since it is unsafe to
spend a lot of time on top of the pass due to the high altitude and thin air,
have yourself photographed as soon as you get to Khardung La and get on the
road. After descending from the pass, we make a brief lunch stop before
continuing on our way. We stop briefly to see the 32-meter-tall Maitreya Buddha
statue at Diskit Monastery after riding for a few more hours. The sight of the
double-hump Bactrian camels grazing and the white sand dunes will greet us as
we enter the valley. Spend the night at the campsite or motel.
Since
we will be spending the night at the same location, today will be rather laid
back. Following breakfast, we will take a journey to Turtuk, a breathtakingly
gorgeous location. Turtuk, which Pakistan claimed following the end of British
control in 1947, was seized by India following the Indo-Pak War in 1971. The
settlement was kept remote for many years because of its closeness to the
border, and it wasn't until 2010 that it was accessible to travelers. Since
then, many adventure travelers have been staying in the settlement, which is
surrounded by the Karakoram mountains. Turtuk, which is located on the banks of
the Shyok River, is a very green place in contrast to the region's arid
scenery. We plan to cycle back to our Hunder lodging and spend one more night
there after touring the area.
Following
breakfast, we begin our journey to Pangong Lake, Ladakh's most photographed
location. As we travel through Shyok on a much less-traveled road, the trip
should be very intriguing, even if we won't be crossing any high passes today.
The majority of our journey will take us through the villages of Agham, Shyok,
Durbuk, and Tangste, as well as along the stunning Shyok River. Being careful
is crucial because the route is still slushy and has several thrilling water
crossings and rough terrain. The final portion of the journey will be along the
lake after crossing Durbuk. The lake makes a lasting impression on guests from
the moment they first see it. Take a picture of yourself and simply take in the
wonder of this glistening blue lake. Spend the night in tents.
your Ladakh adventure after waking up to a stunning dawn over Pangong Tso. We will follow the same route as yesterday, and after we cross Durbuk, we will begin our ascent of Chang La, the third-highest motorable pass in the world, which is 5360 meters high. Once we crossed Chang La, we stopped for lunch. Following our meal, we travel to Karu, where we begin our ride on the Manali-Leh Highway, which leads to Lah. We will travel by the well-known Druk White Lotus School and the Thiksey monastery just before arriving in Leh. A brief stop will be made to look around the monastery and snap some photos. We will reach Leh for the second time during the expedition after riding for about an hour. Spend the night.
It's time to travel to Himachal Pradesh, another Himalayan wonder, after taking in everything that Ladakh has to offer. Throughout the day, we will travel along the well-traveled Leh-Manali Highway, which passes through some of the area's highest motorable roads. We will traverse the highest pass on the highway, Tanglang La (5328m), as we ride along the Indus River. As we go across the Morey Plains in the direction of Pang, the road begins to improve significantly shortly after we cross the pass. We resume our trek to Manali after lunch at Pang, passing over two more high passes: Lachung La (5059m) and Nakee La (4769m). After navigating all of these high passes, the journey continues as we ride through the Gata Loops, a set of 21 hairpin turns. Sarchu is another half-hour's drive away. Take a nap and have dinner at the campground. Spend the night.
Try
to make the most of this day because it will be the final time you ride on this
excursion. After breakfast, we depart from our hotel/campsite and continue
traveling along the Leh-Manali Highway. Start your bike and ride through some
of the most picturesque villages in the Lahaul Valley, as well as the famous
Atal Tunnel route. Once in Manali, return the bike and check into the hotel.
Later, go out and explore Manali alone with your newfound buddies. Spend the
night at the hotel.
