Not only is Hemis Festival, one of the most significant Buddhist celebrations in Ladakh, but it also attracts the most visitors among other events marking the birth of Guru Padmasambhava. Celebrated on the 10th day of the fifth month of Tibetan Calendar, which is June or July in Gregorian Calendar, the two-day celebration takes place in one of the most visited monasteries in Ladakh, Hemis Gompa. Hemis Monastery hosts Cham Dance and other traditional dances on this well-known celebration in Ladakh under the rhythms of drums and cymbal and on the tones of long pipe like Tibetan music instrument. Giant thangkas ( Buddhist artwork) are displayed for the public on both days. Actually, Hemis hosts the largest thangka in Ladakh on the first day of the public celebration every 12th year.

After
a hearty breakfast, embark on a full-day tour of Leh's monasteries and
sightseeing. You can explore the remains of the Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, and
the Hall of Fame, a museum constructed and run by the Indian Army. Navigate
around the ancient Ladakhi homes made of mud brick. Visit the Thiksey Monastery
after lunch. It is regarded as the biggest gompa in Ladakh and is located in
the Indus Valley region. Visit the Shey Monastery as you continue your journey.
This monastery is located in the Shey Palace, which served as the royal
kingdom's summer capital. There is also a tall, elevated statue of Lord Buddha
at SheyGompa. You can go to the Stok Palace, the current Ladakh king's private
residence, later in the day. The area has a lot of window frames and

the night after touring the city of Leh.
After
breakfast, head to Hemis in the morning to see the well-known Hemis Festival.
All the monasteries in Ladakh are run by the Drukpa order, which has its
headquarters at Hemis. The HemisGompa is the center of the festival's
festivities. In Ladakh, the gompa is regarded as the largest and most
prosperous. The largest thangka also resides there. Additionally, it prepares
Lamas for the royal monasteries at Bazgo, Shey, and Leh. Numerous gilded
statues and stupas adorned with priceless stones can be found within the
monastery. There are two primary sections to this Buddhist gompa. The temple
and the assembly hall are the first. The main attraction of the Hemis Festival
in Ladakh is the well-known and revered masked dance, which is performed by
lamas and monks, along with special musical performances in these rooms.
It
is stated that Guru Padmasambhava is the object of the masked dance. The
celebration of good over evil is commemorated with the dance. People from the
area come out and mingle during the Hemis festival. During this celebration,
women are adorned with numerous jewels and beautiful headdresses, while males
are seen sporting cummerbunds. To commemorate the occasion, multiple brass trumpets
measuring three meters in length are sounded. Along the way, you can also stop
by the Thiksey monastery, a magnificent building that offers a broad
perspective over the verdant Indus valley. Once you've had a fantastic time,

After

village of Uletokpo is located along the Leh-Srinagar Highway. You can also
stop via Alchi village en route. It is renowned for its Alchi monastery, which
is situated on the Indus River's bank. On the plains, it is thought to be the
lone monastery. You can continue driving to Likir Monastery after visiting
these two locations. The Gelugpa or Yellow Hat sect is housed in this
monastery. One of the newest schools of Tibetan Buddhism is the Gelug sect. Je
Tsongkhapa was its founder. All members of this sect wear hats that are yellow
in colour. The founder of this monastery was Lama Duwang Chosje in 1065. This
monastery's centrepiece is a 25-foot-tall statue of a Buddha coated in gold.
The incredibly vibrant Likir Monastery provides a stunning vista of the
mountains and beyond. You can drive to Uleytokpo after touring the monastery.

After
preparing, you can begin your trip by making the about 2.5-hour drive to
Lamayuru Monastery. You can proceed to Lamayuru Gompa after you get there. It
is the most well-known gompa and is thought to be the largest and oldest in the
area. It is located in Kargil, in the Himalayas. There are over 150 monks
living at this gompa. This Gompa is also a member of the Red-hat sect. The
gompa features statues of various Buddha forms, painted walls, and a library of
literature. You can drive to the Rizong Monastery, which is situated at the
valley's ends, after you have thoroughly visited the area. According to legend,
Lama TsultimNim, a devout disciplinarian, founded the monastery. You can go
back to Uleytokpo after seeing a lot of Gompas and learning about their
cultures. Spend the night at the Uleytokpo camp.
You
can visit the Alchi monastery, which features stunning wall murals, after
getting ready. The monastery upholds both Buddhist and Hindu principles. You
will be taken back to Leh after your tour of the monastery. You can catch a
glimpse of the Phyang monastery, which has several shrines and intricate
features, on your journey back to Leh. The Spituk monastery, which is on your
route, is another place you can visit. This gompa has numerous antique masks,
weapons, and exquisite thangkas. Proceed with your journey back to Leh. You are

After breakfast this morning, depart for Ladakh's capital, the Nubra Valley. You will be enthralled by Nubra's inherent beauty. It's a fantastic place to trek because of its extremely high elevation. There are a couple Buddhist monasteries there as well. Due to its abundance of farmlands, the Nubra Valley is also known as the Orchard of Ladakh. You can visit the Hunder Monastery, which is thought to be the biggest in the Nubra Valley, while you're there. The authentic Tibetan style is taken into consideration when making it.Another place you can visit is the Panamik village, which is reputed to be the final village reachable by travellers. The village is worth visiting for its sulphur springs and Saichan glaciers, and it has many hot springs. The Khardung-La Pass, the entryway to Nubra Valley, is open for visits later.
