Many of the rare plant and animal species found in Uttarakhand are safeguarded by sanctuaries and reserves. Uttarakhand is home to several national parks, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Valley of Flowers National Park and Nanda Devi National Park in Chamoli District, and Jim Corbett National Park, the oldest national park in India, located in Ramnagar in Nainital District. Many of the plant species found in the valley are listed as internationally vulnerable, including a few that are unique to Uttarakhand.
